Corporate Social Responsibility
At Magma, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a medium to meet our social economic, environmental and ethical responsibilities.
Education
More than 70% of the 1.3-billion-strong Indian population live in villages. 50% of children in the 6-14 year age group have never been to school. For girls, the percentage is even higher. For the deprived and gender-discriminated children, Magma represents possibilities. Countless.
At Magma, we recognise that poverty represents the most intimidating barrier to child education in rural India. We are convinced that education can unleash economic opportunities and transform individuals into leaders. We are passionate about playing the role of a catalyst in initiating positive change, together with organisations that work in the area. Magma has partnered with Friends of Tribal Society for its Literacy Project. It has adopted 13 schools in six tribal areas of Jamshedpur, Raipur, Jabalpur, Ranchi, Siliguri and Bhubaneshwar under the unique Ekal Vidyalaya Scheme. This innovative concept of one teacher schools (OTS) is based on the simple - but effective - concept of one trained teacher educating children in the 6-14 age group for three hours a day using informal teaching methods. In addressing the basic education needs of over 1,000 tribal children, we are making it possible for hundreds of hitherto deprived students to dream.
Better Health with Magma
We conduct a host of programmes across the country, comprising health and eye-check-up camps for truck drivers and their associates. As medical experts guide the truckers on health-related issues, free medicines, spectacles and gifts are also distributed at the health camps. As part of the 'Better Health with Magma' program, we organize a series of innovative daylong educative programmes for truckers. For people who otherwise undergo the tedium of spending days behind the steering wheel, this event proves to be a rare combination of self knowledge and learning. The truckers receive tips on health and safe driving, along with which they enjoy the entertainment programmes. These unique infotainment events on primary healthcare for truckers are held in association with NGOs at state truck halts on national highways. Awareness-generating puppet shows and nukkad nataks (street plays), games, singing, arm wrestling and contests on "best maintained truck competitions", among others, create a lasting impact.
A splash of colour
We encourage budding young painters to express their unique talent by organizing the 'Painters' Workshop'. We brighten the hues of the young artists, fresh out of colleges, at this event. Noted celebrities like Wasim Kapoor, attend it to motivate the youngsters. Promising painters are selected for yearlong scholarships, giving them some financial leeway to pursue their dreams. By supporting the development of the talented artists, our foray in the domain of fine arts has become a success.
Grandparents' day out
'Grandparents day out' is held every year during Durga Puja in Kolkata. This program was initiated to extend our love and respect to the elderly citizens who live in old age homes. We have imaginatively tied up this event with eastern India's biggest festival. Held over the last few years, it has proved to be a truly emotional experience for all the participants, as they visit some of Kolkata's happening Pujas with the Magma team. Often the senior citizens narrate their Puja and pandal-hopping tales from the 1950s and 1960s, savoring memories of their youth. The stories move both the speakers and the listeners, making the event a truly rewarding experience and giving the silver-haired some golden memories.
Monetary band-aid
We offer financial assistance to the socially disadvantaged patients of leukaemia and other forms of cancer and tuberculosis, among others. It is Magma's way of helping the needy.
