Kolkata, 5th January, 2012: A 24 member team from Magma Fincorp Limited, one of the leading asset finance companies of the country, will take part in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012. The team headed by Mr. Sanjay Chamria, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, will cover the 21 Kilometer, half - marathon stretch. Magma is running for a cause and raising funds for charity through the marathon. The amount raised will be donated to an orphanage run by the Philanthropic Society Of The Orthodox Church, Kolkata.

Magma has created a fund raising initiative for the orphanage on its Facebook fan page, which has amassed over 1,10,000 fans. An application has been created where users can show their support for the initiative by clicking on a live-ticker; with each new click on the application button - http://on.fb.me/MagmaMM, Magma will add Rs. 20/- to the donation amount on the user's behalf. This initiative, which started on 3rd January, 2012 will continue till the midnight on 14th January, 2012.

"Magma has participated in varied CSR activities pan India for years. This time we wanted to extend our support to the children of the orphanage managed by the Philanthropic Society of the Orthodox Church. There are over 100 children in this orphanage and it's a humble initiative on our part to be with them. By participating in the Mumbai Marathon this year we would be raising funds to give wings to these children's dreams. We are also extending this initiative on Facebook where we are gathering support for our cause. We will be donating at least Rs. 5 lac and will contribute Rs. 20 for each click on our Facebook application", said Mr Sanjay Chamria, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Magma Fincorp Limited.

We will be able to accept more kids and organize extra-curricular activates for them with Magma's contribution. About The Philanthropic Society Of The Orthodox Church

Father Ignatius with Sister Nectaria came to India in 1991 to reopen the Greek Church which was closed for 20. In 1993, a Philanthropic Society in Kolkata was formed by them. This society has dispensaries in West Bengal, 5-6 schools in different districts and home for the orphans. As on date, there are 116 children here. The children are provided education and are sent to private schools as well as schools operated by the Society. They are also taught computers, dance, musical instruments, etc. The orphanage was set up in 1999 in Bakeshwar village in Kolkata and is equipped with a dental and healthcare clinic.
