Kolkata, 25th January, 2012: Magma Fincorp Limited, the leading asset finance company, today handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lac to an orphanage run by The Philanthropic Society of the Orthodox Church, Kolkata. The event was graced by Mr Dibyendu Barua, Chess Grandmaster and Arjuna Award winner, Ms Saheli Dhar Barua, Women's International Master & Former Asian Junior Champion and Ms Gargi Roy Chowdhury, renowned Bengali actress.

To raise funds for charity, a twenty four member team from Magma Fincorp Limited took part in the recently held Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012. The team headed by Mr Sanjay Chamria, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, covered the 21 Km, half - marathon stretch with aplomb.

For this, Magma created a fund raising initiative for the orphanage on its Facebook fan page, which has amassed over 1,10,000 fans. An application was created where users could show their support for the initiative by just clicking on a live-ticker; and with each new click on the application button, Magma contributed an additional Rs. 20/- to the donation amount on the user's behalf. Apart from this, Magma employees also contributed for the cause.

Ms Vanita Chamria, representing the Magma Promoter Group, who was present at the event handed over the cheque to the Orphanage and said, "Magma is very passionate about its Corporate Social Responsibility and participates in several social initiatives pan-India. We have wanted to contribute to the orphanage school run by The Philanthropic Society of the Orthodox Church for some time now. The Mumbai Marathon was a great opportunity to run for a cause and we also generated support in an innovative way through our Facebook application".
